As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we have a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the stories that shaped our families, communities, and country.
That is why the Memories In Writing Foundation is excited to kick off the Stories Matter! 250 Campaign.
The goal is simple: invite people across the country to share, record, and preserve personal stories as part of this historic moment.
History is not only found in textbooks, monuments, or museums.
It is also found in kitchen table conversations, family traditions, military service, school memories, first jobs, community events, and the everyday moments that shape our lives.
Every person carries a piece of history.
Every family has stories worth saving.
Every community has voices that deserve to be remembered.
Through the Stories Matter! 250 Campaign, we invite people of all ages to reflect on questions like:
What does it mean to be an American?
Who helped shape your life?
What story of service should be remembered?
What moment in history did you experience firsthand?
What family or community memory should be passed on?
These questions are more than prompts. They are invitations to pause, remember, and connect across generations.
A memory that feels ordinary today may become priceless tomorrow. A story that seems small may help future generations understand where they came from and what life was like in this moment.
The Stories Matter! 250 Campaign is not about telling one version of America’s story.
It is about making room for many stories — stories of pride, service, hardship, hope, family, community, and change.
As we honor America’s 250th, we invite individuals, families, schools, senior communities, veterans groups, nonprofits, churches, businesses, and community organizations to participate.
Your story matters. Their story matters. Our stories matter.
Join us as we kick off the Stories Matter! 250 Campaign and help preserve the voices of this historic moment.
